Illuminate like a Swede: The Funnel Lamp by WIS Design for Örsjö
It might be a bloodline bias that has got me believing the Swedes design the perfect balance of smart-modern and clean-practical everything, but I can’t help it. Perhaps the true test of a country’s design ability stems from the quality of its infrastructure. Regardless of my hypotheses, there’s WIS Design – a bright, young duo out of Stockholm – who are measuring up to the high standards.
The Funnel Lamp. Designed by WIS Design for Örsjö.
At the Stockholm Furniture Fair earlier this year, the Funnel lamp by Lisa Wid©n and Anna Irinarchos of WIS Design was launched by Örsjö Belysning. As 2006 graduates of Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, each with BA in art and design, they two have already found success around the world. In fact, they’ve worked with a plethora of companies and currently have some of their work represented within the Nationalmuseum (Swedish National Museum of Art) and the Röhsska Museet (Swedish Design Museum).
Funnel is a small, industrial-looking light inspired by vintage street lamps. It is made from a painted metal with plastic grips and is produced as a pendant, wall, table, floorlamp, or spotlight. The lamp styles can be mixed and matched for use within office, residential, or commercial spaces.
WIS Design’s Wid©n and Irinarchos work in furniture, product, interior, and graphic design. With a prolific portfolio that shows their “poetic and playful approach” to industrial design, they offer custom design and interior decoration to clients besides working with Örsjö – their innovative partner in the Funnel Lamp creation – who is based in south east Sweden and carries 60 years of manufacturing experience under their belt.
Like a metaphor of Swedish style, the zest and functionality of the Funnel Lamp is the perfect fusion of old-meets-new.
