Essence by Graham & Brown Explores the Essential
Essence is a word whose diverse meanings have often been jumbled together, sometimes to the point of being diluted. While it can refer to the most important aspect of something–the part that constitutes the whole–it can also mean something that is highly concentrated (as with oils). Somewhere in between these two definitions is another denotation: the fixed nature of a thing. It is this last definition that best describes the Essence Collection of wallpapers by Graham & Brown.

Beneath design and behind nature, there lurk essential forms such as the line and the circle. Symmetry is another essence to be found in both the manmade and the organic. The Essence Collection boils down these items into a group of “exquisite florals, soft shimmering trails, bold graphic stripes and a palette of repeating plain texture effects.”

For example, the line is explored in Verve Stripe, a paper that can be applied vertically or horizontally. In brown, the wallpaper takes on an earthy quality that complicates its bold graphic stripes. If you’re more attracted to another fundamental shape, the circle, take a look at Allum, a wallcovering with a pattern of dandelions–dandelions at their end stage, to be specific, when they look like ethereal balls. In purple with metallic highlights, Allum comes close to the celestial, which is fitting, since Graham & Brown claims the Essence wallpapers “blanket your rooms in wallpaper heaven.” Available in “a truly sumptuous color palette,” the collection includes chocolate, crimson, and duck egg.
