Enlighten your Load with the Double Stray Lamp by Artecnica
A moir© pattern is the fancy word used in physics to describe an interference pattern, or a visual effect that perplexes the mind. Although it usually comes from combining two patterns that do not match up, it's also a term used on TV since certain patterns become distracting. But to Artecnica, an L.A.-based company that leads the charge in designing striking and functional products, the moir© pattern is taken to entirely new level.
Double Stray. Designed by Artecnica.
The name Double Stray refers to the two overlapping line grids that wrap around the lampshade's design by Inga Semp© – who was recently featured here for designing the Delta outdoor shower for Tectona. The result of this collaboration was a bold but uncomplicated form that comes flat-packed, shipped to your doorstep, and does not require assembly. It makes the balance of efficiency and durability seem automatic with its perfect, condensed packaging containing a lamp Semp© says was inspired by Chinese paper lanterns. The designer reflects, "I wanted to create a lampshade that captured the lightness and ease of these lanterns." With that, the Double Stray's high efficiency alone makes it the perfect solution for our growing design- and environmentally- conscious population.
Like an accordion, the Double Stray unfolds into a series of vertical and horizontal lines that give the lamp its sophisticated form. When expanded, a subtle warmth seeps through its thin, white shell as it hangs from the ceiling at 13"H x 11.4"W (33.02 cm H x 28.96 cm W).
So if lugging a weighted, bulky box home from a mainstream store fills you with anxiety and the need for a direct “enlightening”, the glow of a the Double Stray ceiling lamp effortlessly answers the call.
