ICFF Best New Designer: Objeti
It’s pretty exciting that the company which earned the New Designer award from ICFF hails from none other than Cleveland, Ohio, smack in the middle of America’s heartland. Exactly at a time when the country’s economy is making people wonder why we stopped making things, Objeti is answering the call. And should you be interested in any Objeti products, they are offering free shipping until July 1, 2010.

Whether or not this is in honor of their ICFF win is unknown, but you’ll reap the benefits no matter why. Two of their more interesting products, which happen to rhyme, are Soft Tools and Drop Stools. If you’re suddenly recalling your favorite Dr. Seuss tale, just go with it, because Objeti’s furniture is playful enough for that type of word play.

Constructed from “a combination of an eco-friendly wood seat and precision machined aluminum legs,” Drop Stools measure either 20 or 25 inches in height with a 15″ diameter. They get their names from an interesting and eco-friendly source: “The wood seats are composed of unusable wood drops from local woodworkers in the Northeast Ohio area.” Soft Tools are another intriguing Objeti creation. A series of three “hand pressed, naturally dyed, felt pendant lamps,” Soft Tools come in different shapes. Chamfer, Radius, and Ball shape the material into circles, cones, and cymbals. Available in two colors, Soft Tools are 9.5″ high with a 20.5″ diameter. Founded by Joseph Ribic and run with the help of his brother and father, Objeti encapsulates the familial: “The name Objeti is a Slovenian word meaning embrace,” which is heightened by the design firm’s emphasis on “inviting the user to explore and discover.” Functional and fun, Objeti’s pieces prove that American ingenuity is alive and well.
