Sorrento Tub by Victoria & Albert
If you’ve ever been to the Deep South, you know they know a thing or two about serious rest and relaxation. In fact, one truism I learned during my recent six-week stint in Savannah is that drinking is a bona fide civic pastime. That’s not to say that this habit is untoward–to the contrary, Savannahians imbibe with more than a touch of class (in spite of their penchant for the ubiquitous to-go cup they foist on patrons at all fine dining establishments). If Sorrento, “the modern sit tub based on the traditional Japanese Ofuro,” is any indication, South Carolinians approach their leisure time with the very same zeal. Based stateside in Mount Pleasant, SC, just a stone’s throw from Savannah’s sister city, Charleston, manufacturer Victoria & Albert offers “the ultimate statement in quality and style… a collection packed with inspirational designs made from 100% ENGLISHCASTâ„¢, a blend of volcanic limestone and high performance resins.”

makes a fitting counterpart to yesterday’s TUB (also constructed from a modern, super-durable composite). But while TUB presents a tempting option of function and fashion, Sorrento goes for full-bore indulgence. At 55″ long x 40″ deep x 38″ wide, Sorrento is one voluble and voluminous body-washing basin. (Also in contrast to TUB, it easily accommodates two, and perhaps more, should your fancy sway that way). Sorrento comes in a bevy of options: freestanding, semi-, and fully-recessed installations; choice of solid hardwood steps; double-width bench seat; and choice of finish. Sorrento’s Englishcast finish is naturally white, but the exterior can be stenciled, faux-finished, or painted, as seen in V & A’s featured prototype of gorgeous white irises in bold relief against a crystal blue sky.
