Victoria Wilmotte’s Marble Connections
If you follow 3Rings, these likely look familiar. Pieces from Victoria Wilmotte‘s new Marble Connections, on display at La Galerie de Pierre Bergé & Associés until February 2010, bear a striking resemblance to her previous work Domestic Landscape: ‘a total scenography that happens “around the table”’. She addresses this previous collection (particularly the table and trestle) through the re-visitation of shapes and the inclusion of her distinctive metal legs – while transforming it through the use of marble tabletops and the combination of other materials.

The metal table legs are produced through her established process of cutting and hitting square metal tubes to split them in half lengthwise. By applying this technique, the full metal tube could serve as the horizontal crosspiece and split to produce a pair of legs on either end, creating a balanced four-legged table. The surfaces reflect her newfound appreciation for the noble stone marble.
Included within this new collection are a pair of trestle tables made of softened marquina with feet in black anodized aluminum, a pedestal table made from absolute black granite and a marble table punctuated by sculptural objects. Smaller objects include an eyebrow mirror with black granite from Zimbabwe and Marble plates of White Carrara, Savoy blue and crema Michelangelo. Marble Collections is a collaboration with EDM Paris and Elle Marmi.
After her architecture studies, she followed the path of her father and decided to orient herself towards Design. She was awarded a master’s degree at the prestigious Royal College of Art of London. Her work suggests a fascination with material assembly, along with their formal placement and functionality.
