Blog Table by Lievore Altherr Molina
What is it they say? You know your hobby has entered the popular lexicon when a famed Italian manufacture-design team debuts a product named for it? I’m paraphrasing here, and quite badly at that, I might add, but hopefully the point is made: that the coinage “Blog” now rightfully belongs in Webster’s, Random House, and even the O.E.D., however much the grammatical purists might object. All this by way of introduction to the new “Blog” table, designed by Lievore Altherr Molina for Verzelloni (try saying that ten times fast).
Blog Table. Designed by Lievore Altherr Molina for Verzelloni.
When last we heard of L.A.M., they’d just crafted the spider-like profile of the leather-clad Catifa 60, a chair for those who like a little comfort with their ergonomic modernity, so I’m not surprised to see another piece that responds to the evolving demands of life as presently lived—a notion that acknowledges the pervasiveness of blogging, as well as that of the “work anywhere/anytime” mentality that’s part and parcel of wireless technology. Blog is a testament to the notion that complex changes often call for deceptively simple solutions: it’s a rather non-descript low table made of epoxy powder-coated metal in unassuming white or grey. “The Perfect little table for reading, writing, or blogging, it sidles up to any chair or couch.” Bonus: when fitted with an accompanying formed cushion, it doubles as a comfortable armrest.
Blog has an understated aesthetic that suits its overt functionality. It reminds me of the impressive historical roster of little, helpful creatures that are modest, even withdrawn, but always there at just the right moment to fill a pressing need. Let’s call it the R2D2 of occasional tables.
