OOOMS Glassbulb Light
It’s all about the ambience; it provides “the perfect lighting for those long romantic evenings accompanied by a nice Bordeaux.” Shaped like a wine glass, OOOM’s Glassbulb light, suspended from the ceiling, takes dining and romance to a literal level. Add some oysters and chocolate, clink glasses under the soft glow and have your way.
Glassbulb Light. Designed by OOOMS.
Dutch design studio OOOMS, run by Guido Ooms and Karin van Lieshout, focuses on designing products for in and around home. The duo’s work is diverse and includes witty and original pieces such as wooden usb sticks, a solar birdhouse, a rebellious cabinet and even a roadkill carpet. Commissioned by the Dutch souvenir project and initiated by the European Ceramic Work Centre, the pair designed a new kind of Dutch souvenir: Milkmaid, a blue and white ceramic dildo.
Glassbulb is lit by LED lights, which use less energy to emit the same amount of light as standard bulbs or compact fluorescents, and which will shine for over 30,000 hours according to OOOMS. “So that’s around 10 years of romance at night!” Available in two voltage options: 110V or 220V, it can be brighter or more dim depending on the desired ambiance. As a single pendant light or a chandelier-esque grouping, Glassbulb is an original means of lighting your dining area. While their are numerous other “unique” lighting designs such as Dima Loginoff’s Male, these are potentially not pieces you would want to eat around. Dinner guests may feel a bit squeamish.
