Lucie Koldová’s Table Treasury is a Process of Discovery

I am an admirer of all things compartmentalized, so the Table Treasury is a dream come true. Czech designer Lucie Koldová has an obsessive-compulsive bone in her body, to be sure. Meant to store stationary, among other things, this table features drawers that accommodate specific envelope and paper sizes, such as A2—this may mean little to you, but the idea that the drawers are specialized for each size of paper product will be liberating for a certain (if unusual) segment of the population—letterpress printers, for example.

The clear table top also helps you know what lurks inside each compartment, so shuffling through drawers will be a thing of the past. This is good news for my husband, who can never locate the stamps even though they have always lived in the second drawer on the left. Furniture manufacturer Process represents the commodious and versatile Table Treasury (also check out their Cheeky Boxes, which will go well paired with my dream table). If I could decipher Lucie Koldová’s website—sadly, I can neither read nor speak any Eastern European language—then I could go on at length about the philosophical underpinnings of her work. Instead, I can merely say that this table with drawers at every side fulfills my wildest childhood wishes.

Perhaps the word Treasury included in this piece’s title is meant to echo that lost wonder of discovery so common to little people, wherein every drawer opened can contain an afternoon’s worth of surprise. Of course, with the Table Treasury, one can see through the work surface—but it’s quite a surprise for adults to be able to find what their looking for.
