Ross Lovegrove’s 100% Desk Lamp for Danese
Ross Lovegrove, recently received the honor of a design monograph dedicated to his work, published by forward-looking Phaidon. So it should come as no surprise that 3rings is covering his latest desk lamp, cleverly titled 100% (which equals perfection, notwithstanding those insane people who insist on giving “it” 110% or some such unlikely number). In fact, there is no more than 100% of anything, making Lovegrove’s lamp a bit utopian—given that there is simply no statistical way to please everyone. In any case, the 100% desk lamp takes advantage of its visible circuit board, painted and flexible as it is.
100%. Designed by Ross Lovegrove for Danese.
The clever LED lamp announces its own technology—emphasizing it with a bright orange color. 100% has much of what every great new LED desk lamp offers—dimmability, energy efficiency, and sleekness. Where it differs is in its sheer transparency: Lovegrove is celebrating the technology by integrating the flexible Kapton circuit board into the lamp’s design. By Lovegrove’s own admission, he creates with the future in mind: “I continue to explore innovative solutions that relate to new architectonic languages.” Produced by Danese, 100% continues the illumination innovation for which the company is known (see Una Sistema and Cau Sospensione).
A generous base also differentiates 100% from recent LED task lighting; although 100% does take up more desk area, it simultaneously offers a surface on which to rest the accoutrements of modern-day work—papers, books, laptops, phones, and the like. In white, 100% naturally pairs well with anything Mac, so Apple geeks everywhere can rejoice. It’s the perfect lamp to feature on the groovy MILK Desk—or, even better, on the white and orange Omega.
