A more natural progression from the womb? Since familiarity provides comfort, a cocoon-like crib would likely make a newborn’s transition from the hospital to the home a little bit easier. The Culla Sinuè crib by Daniela Avaltroni, introduced at Milan Design Week, is a modern-day bassinet. Like its traditional counterpart, it features a moveable hood to provide a shaded and quiet atmosphere for sleeping. With its sleek, contemporary aesthetics and modern practicality, we hope that rather than existing solely as a prototype, it does in fact go into production.

The egg-like form is set upon compression springs and stainless steel legs, ensuring shock absorbency and hopefully a deep (REM) sleep. It was debuted in two varying surface options: a smooth solid white finish or brown upholstery (leather) with delicate stitching. The white version, with its space-age aesthetic, is particularly reminiscent the stage set for the Jetson’s. Futuristic, smooth and out of the ordinary, Culla Sinuè is a fresh take on the newborn’s crib. With their developing minds and rapid physical growth, babies (and their parents alike) need as much rest as possible. The comfort, coziness, familiarity and protection of the Culla Sinuè crib seeks to facilitate this very necessary rest.
