It seems that just a few weeks ago the 3rings staff was sweating it, skeptical that the warm weather and sunshine would ever arrive – now with Memorial Day weekend upon us, now it would that no amount of AC system up-cranking is enough to cool down rising temperatures. Whether this 3-day break finds you relaxing on rooftops, lounging poolside or anywhere in between, here are a few fresh design ideas to make you look smart when post-bbq chat turns to the hottest new European armoires on the market.

1. Leave it to Spanish enfant terrible Jaime Hayon to master the hard art of asymmetry. His Tudor Cabinet for Established & Sons, which was just introduced a few months ago in Milan, is exactly where we’d like away to pack away all those godawful winter sweaters.

2. While international French design star was off hosting a reality TV design show, he also managed to still pack in a bit of time at the drawing board. His first foray into culinary design for German haus of wellness Duravit, the Starck K kitchen sink is as awesome as they come.

3. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a design lover out there who doesn’t appreciate the simple, girdded primary color work of artist Piet Mondrian. A functional and minimalist choice for the bathroom, Porcelanosa’s collection Mondart artfully blends Mondrian’s master aesthetic with the bathroom sink with an end result that belong in a museum.

4. Flipping through a design mag last week, I came across Leucos’ Katana floor lamp, a gorgeous 2-part design which suggests to me an abstracted film still from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon dropped into that of a contemporary warehouse photo shoot.

5. The second in this weekly wrap-up produced by UK-based design manufacturer Established & Sons, the Stack freestanding set of drawers designed by Raw Edges is conceptual and colorful take on the extremely ordinary.
