Technicolorama: ArmadaQuadrat’s HIL Chair

There is now another reason to visit Stuttgart, Germany besides the fabulous Staatsgalerie. It’s called ArmadaQuadrat. This student-run design firm is composed of “a team of young and dedicated consultants, copywriters, programmers and marketing experts” who have recently introduced the HIL Chair, an H-shaped form made of acrylic and acrylic glass.
Take a good look at HIL on the Behance website or at ArmadaQuadrat’s own blog. It’s also been featured in many a cyberspace locale, mostly those involving young, hot designers and their wares.

Wherever you see the HIL Chair, you will surely also catch sight of the chair’s logo, again illustrating the all-encompassing nature of the ArmadaQuadrat firm. The HIL Chair is a simple silhouette of black or colored acrylic, or any combination thereof. Of the two versions of the chair, each is available in seven different colors, with either the back or the seat in a candi-colored hue and the remainder in a modest serene black. The contrast is lovely and sure to go well with modern design in any of its incarnations, from acid green schemes of hallucinatory excess to black and red combinations of classic contemporary. The reflective surface of the backrest adds an extra dimension, bringing a bit more textural interest to the HIL chair.

ArmadaQuadrat says it will release a matching table soon, as well as an alternative version of the HIL Chair. Who knows how these will interact with the H form of the original—whose logo makes the chair look as if it were developed specifically for a stick figure (something I particularly like, since I often dream of a world peopled exclusively with stick figure inhabitants). Rest assured, however, that the HIL Chair accommodates the actual living, granting our bendable knees a comfortable angle for repose.
