For this week’s content, we spent the week culling the best product designs in preparation for everyone’s favorite holiday, none other than Valentine’s Day. From sugar sweet to utterly sexy, the 3rings wrap-up of furniture design features a solid (and predominantly European) survey of products to make your heart flutter. Love may be fleeting but these romantically-inspired designs are, no doubt, here to stay.

At the beginning of the week, star blogger Joe asked the question, “Is it true that everything good comes in threes?” Whatever your Valentine’s Day-related response to this may be, we answered yes in picking Walter Papst’s Three-legged Chair re-issued by Wilkhahn. According to his feature which I quote loosely here, Papst's design was an early example of ergonomic innovation, the streamlined composition and forward orientation of which facilitated interaction in group settings and in general, encouraged the design community to imagine and experiment. Enough said.

2. Following Papst’s chair we brought you the Radiant and Trillion tables from the limited edition furniture collection of Alexandra von Furstenberg. Sleek, sexy and contemporary pieces that deliver smart injections of neon color into her lucite designs, ladies might be especially fond of them (the Trillion tables in particular) for their remarkable resemblance to the ever-coveted engagement ring rock.

3. Hot on the heels of Alexandra’s tables came a brilliant post from Ali about Fabio Novembre’s Him & Her chairs, two Panton Chair-inspired cantilevered seats that are defined by their scandalous silhouettes of both a man and woman’s backsides. We dig them for the playful reference to an iconic design and for Novembre’s unquestionable dare-for-flare attitude. Now if only we could figure out which one to sit in without confusing our own sexual orientation.

4. Tomás Alonso‘s No. 7 (Nube) chair might not possess any overt suggestions of Valentine’s Day but as a staff writer pick, we couldn’t help but find a way to squeeze it in to the weekly wrap-up (ok, maybe the name “Nube” does conjure a naughty reference or two).

5. If Royal Botania‘s free-standing love hammock Kokoon doesn’t elicit fantasies of dangerous vacation liaisons behind the gauzy white curtains of Miami poolside loungers, we don’t know what would. Still braving New York City’s wickedly cold month of February, we appreciate this design for its ability to (at least temporarily) transport us somewhere more tropical.

6. If you are blaming your love handles this season on the lack of romantic action, you might consider this slightly more seductive interpretation of the idea. Fabio Novembre’s Love Series door lever is just about the sexiest piece of metal hardware we’ve seen, designed by none other than one of the most provocative Italian design stallions working today.

7. Interested in something slightly more tender? This week brought you a blog post about Molo‘s Love Letter lights, two clever and beautiful adaptations of Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni’s iconic Arco Lamp. Pick up a few these timeless table lamps if you need to set tomorrow’s mood right.

8. And just in case you thought all of the preceding blog posts were just paying lip service to Valentine’s Day, we gave you the real thing with the Bocca Lip Sofa for Heller designed by Studio 65. Larger-than-life, nothing excites us more than the idea of lounging with a lover on this kissable surrealist pout. In the words of one of my sister’s favorite rappers Akon, “Smack That.” Today saw a doubling of the blog’s efforts to hammer home our interest in curvaceous red seating options. Following yesterday’s big kiss, we also brought you the Cosmos Double Egg Chair, a love seat we think will get you that much closer to the real thing.

Blog posts towards the end of this week have seen an abundance of uber-comfortable couches, the coverage of which we close with Inga Semp©‘s Sofa Coussin for LK Hjelle. A sofa with loose-end cushion-arms that allows the sitter to literally wrap the sofa around themselves, we envision it as the perfectly appropriate replacement Valentine’s Day date.
