2+ Stackable Chairs
At first glance, the 2+ Stackable chairs by Daniel Milchtein Peltsverger for Mebel may appear to be just an elegantly conceived-if somewhat standardized-throwback to the golden age of bentwood. Indeed, the subtly sinuous curves of the piece recall such luminaries as Mies Van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto (see the Artek Lounger), and Charles and Ray Eames. Yet Milchtein, I’m happy to report, confounds all expectations. Not only does his name lack any Nordic resonance, his version of a bentwood lounger throws a new element into the mix: an enviable portability.

Not that the stackable is anything new in and of itself. This blog alone has featured reviews of no less than eight stackable chairs over the last six months (see Cinto, Non, and Myto for a taste), but a space-saver in a wide-profile lounger style? And with such exquisite refinements as matching-grain laminates? Yes, Mebel’s stackable may take the proverbial cake. Not that I’ve anything against the tech-saavy aspect of Non, Myto, et. al., it’s just nice to see this kind of portability in a contemporary piece that hearkens back to the classics.
While Peltsverger’s chair certainly has intrinsic appeal to those of us perpetually warring with our under-sized environs, their stackability shouldn’t confine them to city flats and squished together duplexes; to the contrary, the piece is at home in small and large spaces alike. In fact, the chair has an expansive and airy aspect that suits large and open sun-filled spaces: this means you, warehouse conversion; take heed, urban loft.
As to the particular propensities of the many-syllabled Mr. Milchtein Peltsverger, I’m afraid I can’t say. The only information I’ve been able to glean is that he perhaps resided or resides in Guadalajara.
For those not in the know, the upshot is that the 2+ Stackable chairs can help you clear out the cobwebs.
