Belgian artist-designer pair Damien Gernay and Jeremy Vanneste founded Dust Deluxe in 2006-what they call “a modular studio of plastic research.” New in their investigatory sphere is the Strukt Table, made of laquered aluminum and epoxy foam.

Measuring 141 x 75 x 75 cm, the Strukt Table seems to have evolved from its matter, spreading evenly in a sheet and growing legs. Given Dust Deluxe’s emphasis on matter, Strukt’s development makes sense: “a material has its own language; we appropriate it, based on collapses, accumulations and confrontations of the material.” Notwithstanding the design team’s translational oddities, their point is a good one-the material should dictate its own resolution. Thin and straight, the Strukt Table does not always highlight the angle; in fact, the legs join the table base to form slight curves along the table’s longer sides. Whereas, at each end-for the heads of the table-the legs do engage the sharp angle. The combination of smoothness and edginess lend the Strukt Table a whimsical air. Should you come to it from one side only to move to the other, you will be surprised at the Strukt’s slight shifts (could the table be making a comment about power and who holds it?).

Available in black, white, red, yellow, blue, and aluminum, the Strukt Table can enter your environment for your own purpose. In red, use the Strukt for a library table; in white, move the Strukt to a dining room, wherein the bright surface will showcase colorful foods; in black, take the Strukt to the office.

Dust Deluxe will be showing in September at two different venues: the Diito Gallery in Brussels and the 2008 Design September show. There, you can find the design duo (Wonder Twins?), as well as their materials, not to mention their research-and a lot of other new furniture designs too.
