Stunning and Sustainable
Admit it, there are times when sustainable and drop dead gorgeous are mutually exclusive. Sometimes for the sake of the greater good designers, do have to make compromises. It’s simply a reality.
Santa Barbara Sectional. Designed by Richard Craymer of RC Green.
But when I gaze upon the jaw dropping furnishings of RC Green, I am so overcome by their modern beauty that I’d be hard pressed to identify any aspect of their construction that was the result of compromise. The silhouettes are moderns and fresh – without ever veering into the “retro” zone. The fabrics appear supple and soft, the very qualities you want in a sofa or chaise. So just who is behind the RC Green collection? The RC stands for Richard Craymer. Robert is a furniture designer, manufacturer, living space designer and retailer who has been featured on shows such as HGTV, The New York Times and Town & Country. He is known for his chic, elegant, functional designs. This Los Angeles designer’s collections are so handsome, he has gained celebrities such as Amanda Peete, Will Smith and Jessica Simpson as clients.
What makes Robert different from other furniture designers is the manufacturing process. Because he owns the production facility that manufactures his pieces, he guarantees control over every level of detail in the production process. This allows him to know exactly what goes into the construction and design of the furniture. This level of control and authenticity has earned RC Green the right to design VIP rooms for today’s major “Green” events.
My favorite pieces are from the Santa Barbara collection. The eco-friendly sectional and sofa are just begging you to invite friends over for a night of wine and laughs. IT all begins with the frame. It is made of Forest Stewardship Council certified wood. Even the springs and screws are made of recycled steel. Glues and stains? Not to worry, they are all non-toxic, water-based and formaldehyde-free. And those plush cushions? They’re made of natural latex wrapped in 100% organic wool and organic cotton with pillows of natural feathers. Upholstery can even be ordered in such fabrics as linen, hemp, and bamboo. Robert isn’t kidding around When he says green, he means it.
But Robert’s idea of green living doesn’t begin and end with sustainable furniture design. He is founding a "Cradle to Cradle" program that will encourage customers to recycle old furniture. With it, he hopes to create refurbished all-green furniture by taking previously used pieces and redesigning them in the all-green method.
It is no doubt this passion for design and responsible living that has garnered Robert his status as designer to the stars. If you’re looking for a bit of that glamorous yet green style in your home, you can’t go wrong with the RC Green collection. Thanks to Robert, living green has never looked so good.
