NeoCon Wrap Up
Our final wrap up is alas here and it’s a special one because in addition to your 3rings editors, the Designer Pages team was on site as well hosting a lofty booth to meet and greet our awesome community.
Let’s recap where we started and how far we’ve come (and I do promise this is the last review), your 3rings editors were quick to report live from Salone, BKLYN DESIGNS, ICFF, and NeoCon. Here is your NeoCon Wrap Up, 2008.
Joseph wrote At NeoCon: Flyaway inPower on June 2, 2008. Maybe it’s because I’ve been on the road for the past six weeks, in and out of airports all across the world, but I wish I’d been so lucky as to have come across a Flyaway inPower to recharge my juice. Of course, I was in Europe and the Middle East, so I would additionally have needed an adapter (which I can assure you I never have). This new transport seating collection by Arconas is a life saver when you’re lucky enough to find it. Fortunately in the States and Canada, you won’t have much trouble at all. And may I wish a safe summer travels to all our 3rings readers.
Sophie wrote At NeoCon: Joel Berman Glass Studios on June 2, 2008. You’ll know very quickly after reading this article that Sophie is an outdoors girl who enjoys her daily dose of sunlight. I suppose that’s why she’s in love with Joel Berman Glass Studios, a manufacturer of interior architectural glass. In particular, two new transparent textures were released at NeoCon: Transition and Bastoni. This is a good read for anyone whom hopes to add some shine to their interior spaces… and who wouldn’t want to be part of that group.
Joseph wrote At NeoCon: Audrey on June 3, 2008. If you’re an admirer of Audrey Hepburn (and who isn’t as she’s a classic and timeless beauty), then you’re going to love the Audrey collection of modular storage cabinets, manufactured by Izzy Design. Available in a variety of configurations and colors, the Audrey is perfect for any interior living or office space seeking inspiration from the smart modern look of Holly Golightly's place in the film Breakfast At Tiffany's.
Alicita wrote At NeoCon: Brillant on June 5, 2008. Can you say BLING BLING? The Brillant by Robby e Francesca Cantarutti is a gem, and I mean that quite literally. Made of transparent, colored polycarbonate, it shines like a faceted gem. In red, the Brillant is a ruby; in blue, a sapphire; and in gold, a topaz. Light refracts and reflects over the Brillant just as it travels through glass or plastic, or dare I say it, diamonds. On that note, this seating collection is perfect for anyone looking to indulge one’s self. So read Alicita’s coverage and frost yourself in Brillant.
Tanya wrote At NeoCon: HÃ…G Sideways on June 5, 2008. This fresh stacking chair does away with all the clich©s by incorporating armrests that curl around the back of the chair. This grants generous support even when one is sitting sideways. The grid back and chair seat are available in black, ochre, sand and olive with a standard black armrest / back handle. By opening up to all directions, the chair brings a hint of informality in the workspace which encourages a more open and stimulating dialogue between colleagues. I like to think of HÃ…G Sideways as fun + professional, a very good combination for your new office side chair.
Alicita wrote At NeoCon: Sulu on June 6, 2008. Who likes colors? Then Sulu is for you! With the wood stained Onyx or Ivory, the Sulu complements a dramatic color palette. Pair the black or white maple with lime green or fuchsia and you've got a perfect chair for the Bacardi headquarters in Miami, where the Sulu can set off Cuban artist Gattorno's mural. If the maple finish is Java or Natural, then the Sulu becomes a quieter affair; a group of them might even be studious enough to fit into Michael Graves' Denver Public Library. Accordingly, Sulu passes the litmus test for me. If it works for Graves, then I am on board too.
NeoCon, Chicago officially kicked off on Monday, June 9, and the fun really started. Because the Designer Pages team was additionally on site at NeoCon, we decided to try something new… live blog coverage from the event itself. The goal was to post five or so shorter articles each day to give you a fresh tasting of our favorite new products released for NeoCon. Less words. More pictures. Along those same lines, I’m going to wrap up our live coverage with less banter and more photos. And here it goes.
On DAY 1 – June 9, 2008 – I wrote Live At NeoCon: Last Minute Tune Up, Live at NeoCon: Molo Design's SoftSeating, Live at NeoCon: Leef, Live at NeoCon: Panelite Basel Lounge, and Live at NeoCon: Design Standing Still.
Note, while I tend to very much dislike clickable images, for wrap up posts only, I’ve made all product photos clickable to the appropriate article. So please click your heart away.
On DAY 2 – June 10, 2008 – I wrote Live at NeoCon: 3form + Woven Wall, Live at NeoCon: Dietiker of Switzerland, and Live at NeoCon: Soul and Lola.
On DAY 3 – June 11, 2008 – I wrote Live at NeoCon: Greenplay, Live at NeoCon: Brit Bench Metallic, Live at NeoCon: Kittinger in the White House, Live at NeoCon: Uno e Zero, Live at NeoCon: Luxo the Great, Live at NeoCon: Superheroes Amongst Us, Live at NeoCon: Heart 1.1, and Live at NeoCon: Ecstasy + Rambo.
Tanya wrote At NeoCon: Get Chair on June 12, 2008. I guess this year’s buzz word is c-o-l-o-r. Everyone wants more color in the workspace and office furniture manufacturers are here to please. The Get Chair is available in 12 pulsating electric shades that will inject life in any self-orchestrated workspace.
Joseph wrote At NeoCon: Nayer Kazemi Water Art on June 12, 2008. Maybe it’s because I am away in St. Thomas this week, a beautiful volcanic island tucked away in the Carribean where it’s nearly impossible to escape views of the Ocean, but I am crushing on this collection of water art and furniture. I mean who doesn’t love the sound of flowing water? I’ll bet that some of our readers sleep to the sound of flowing water via that silly over-priced sound simulation machine (not that I am judging). Back on point, by reminding us that "98% of the human body is composed of water, 3/4 of our planet is covered by water, water is in the soil, the air... water is in every part of nature-the sound of water brings peace and tranquility to many aspects of our lives," Kazemi helps break down the wall between natural and constructed space. And if that was a bit to heavy for you, I’ll say it more simply: Kazemi is creating tremendously beautiful artifacts for both interior and exterior spaces!
Tanya wrote At Neocon: Swank on June 13, 2008. This is possibly my favorite chair from NeoCon, 2008 (and apparently, also Lora’s favorite chair too). Most standard office spaces are averse to furniture that is cacophonous in nature and that might take away from the solemn work environment. Swank doesn't suffer from this same fate, although it does beautifully avoid the lackluster route. The Swank collection is conventional without being boring, contemporary without being edgy, and unique without being eccentric. Hence, the Swank Lounge Collection manages to fulfill the perfect juxtaposition of coherent modernity with classic aesthetics.
Sophie wrote At NeoCon: Webble Footrest on June 13, 2008. I really love seeing design rigor take ownership of particular interior furnishings, whether it be kitchenware artifacts, a fancy stereo AM/FM Ipod alarm clock, or in this instance, a Webble Footrest. A footrest by day but skateboard at heart, it understands the need to warp the workplace into an imaginary playground. And thank god for that, as who doesn’t need more FUN at their workplace. So if you think you’re a fun person (or maybe you think you’re a boring person whom needs some fun) this read is for you.
Tanya wrote At NeoCon: Method Lounge Collection on June 13, 2008. I try not to use this word a lot, but I have to say it, the Method Lounge Collection is sexy! The organically rounded and minimalist profile of of this chair is so amazingly inviting. Who wouldn’t want to l-o-u-n-g-e in this seat? And as Tanya points out, there’s also tremendous flexibility when deciding on a configuration. Two to four seat pallets can be joined with corner tables to create configurations and one can also make connection of seats or benches on pallets. Those who are fans of "more" rather than "less" can also add functional elements like tables, arm partitions, tablets, boxed tables and even paper racks. The Method Lounge Collection is perfect for any corporate, health care, educational, or hospitality environment. A stunning avant-garde seating collection, Method Lounge is our final article from NeoCon, Chicago, and sadly NeoCon, Chicago is our final trade event for this season.
