Live at NeoCon: Luxo the Great

I am so tired that I am starting to squint. That’s what happens after you’ve spent three days on your feet manning a display at NeoCon, Chicago. Combine that with dinner and drinks on the town by evening, and very little sleep by twilight, and you’re pretty much seeing shadows and in the dark while walking the crowded halls of NeoCon.

Thankfully, I came across The Great 1, an over-sized (jumbo) floor lamp by Luxo. To understand the Great 1, you’d need to know of the L-1, the world’s first original architect lamp designed in 1937 (also by Luxo). Unique design, ingenious lighting properties and a flexible spring-balanced arm have earned L-1 a place among the world’s all-time classics. And fortunately, the Great 1 is identical in every detail to the classic L-1 except in size. Spanning an impressive 3.85 meters (12.6 ft.), the Great 1 will be the central architectural element in any setting, even the hallways of NeoCon from which she (yes, she’s female) rises.
