At ICFF: Todd Bracher’s BOOM
We’ve crossed the river into Manhattan to attend the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Javits Center (conveniently located just a few blocks away from the Designer Pages offices). This event is truly a lot of fun and officially marks Design Week here in New York City.
BOOM, occasional-tables. Designed by Todd Bracher.
And while this show is host to some renowned and innovative international works, our first 3rings article is written about an American born designer Todd Bracher . Famous for his thought-provoking designs, Bracher’s work stimulates a dialogue with it’s consumer and allows the creator to express himself in palpable ways. There is no typical "Bracher" style and putting labels on his creations is akin to sacrilege. However, there is no denying that all his creations tend to mock the archaic and reverberate with individuality and evolution.
This past weekend Bracher unveiled the BOOM collection, a group of occasional-tables that enhance any living space with their rarified spirit. The word "boom" has many connotations, however here it tries to capture the quintessence of a vibrant collection that is not afraid to experiment and radiates confidence via its intrusion on the nouveau consciousness.
Visually striking, the Boom collection doesn't adhere to any rules, and will brighten up any self-orchestrated design space. Adventurous and dramatic, BOOM captures the fundamental nature of a 'Bracher design' by communicating its presence and purpose. The open spaces in the tables are intentional as they are meant to maximize the visual impact, while the "functional surfaces provide useful surfaces" and the "ability to nest".
The Boom collection is devoid of any stuffiness and is injected with vibrant electric hues. The collection is an amalgamation of style and functionality that pays tribute to those effervescent design ethos that seek to break away from the mundane. In a nutshell, the Boom Collection embodies the confident attitude of the designer who prefers to set trends rather than follow them.
