At ICFF: Boomerang Collection
diverse cornucopia of projects have heightened the company's creative quest and appetite for both functional and aesthetically pleasing design.
Boomerang Collection. Designed by Gwenael Nicolas. Manufactured by ixc. Edition.
Exhibiting old favorites like the Airframe and Boomerang Series at ICFF, the company exemplifies how good design is timeless and endures the onslaught of newer trends and designs. The Boomerang Series was conceptualized by French designer Gwenael Nicolas in 2003 and the collection compromises of different types of chairs, sofas and even low tables.
Balance and minimalism seem to be the fundamental elements in the Boomerang Series. Though non-dramatic, dismissing the Boomerang Series as just physical structures that fail to evoke any emotion is not accurate. The collection articulates the punctilious planning and attention to detail by Gwenael and even has a Zen like vibe going for it.
Nicolas has used materials like molded polyurethane foam, fabric, and silver painted steel for the Boomerang Collection. All pieces in the collection have been upholstered in fabric and include a steel foot for durability and sustainability. The tables on the other hand are made from transparent methacrylate single panels, which makes for some striking translucent imagery.
It is clear from the Boomerang Collection that Nicolas isn't constrained by conventional standards of design. Gwenael Nicolas has also laid strong emphasis on clean simple lines, which makes the collection exciting and decidedly elegant. Pristine and inviting, the collection reemphasizes values like design innovation, durability and creating products that are both interminable and lasting.
