Meld Sevn Table
For Meld, encouraging environmental consciousness by redefining the world of concrete has propelled the company into a league of its own. Heading what they term as an artistic concrete evolution, Meld compromises a creative team that seeks to annihilate all the fundamental utilitarian clich©s associated with something as prosaic as concrete.
Hence the birth of extremeconcrete, which is actually a heady mix of cast rubber reinforced cement, synthetic fibers among others. But it’s not just about revolutionizing a building material since the company also conveys its vision through what I personally term works of art. The Sevn Table is just one of the many Meld creations that seem to blur the line between design and sustainability. The Sevn Table may be missing an "E" but that only highlights Meld's idiosyncratic vision that doesn't adhere to any design norms.
Sevn table. Designed by William Gordon. Manufactured by Meld.
With Sevn, Meld brings the juxtaposition of materiality and transparency in the forefront by combining concrete with glass. To me the Sevn table represents Meld's aspiration to free the consumer from the obligatory choice of conventional furniture as the Sevn line is developed in complete coherence with modern yet artistic aesthetics.
The Sevn line is the brainchild of designer William Gordon who utilizes Meld's proprietary extremeconrete in conjunction with cutting-edge mold making technologies and premium raw materials. The Sevn Table is available in five standard colors and three premium colors, while the glass surfaces are available in 22"³x 54 x 3/8 thick and 42"³x 3/8 thick round sizes. Custom Configuration is also an option for those who patronize individuality over conformity.
For Meld, the design journey begins at concept and ends at production. Its quite admirable how they are reinventing concrete and working towards a portfolio that is eternal and almost incandescent.
