The exhibition traces Alice Aycock’s career from 1971 to the present, highlighting the major themes that have governed her artistic practice.

The 55 works at the Parrish Art Museum cover the years 1984 to the present, when Aycock developed an increasingly elaborate visual vocabulary, drawing upon a multitude of sources and facilitated in part by the use of computer programs. The Grey Art Gallery’s installation (on view through July 13) focuses on the years 1971–1984 and features 48 works, including detailed architectural drawings, sculptural maquettes, and photo documentation for both realized and imagined architectural projects.

The exhibition will travel next to Santa Barbara, where the two parts will be on view concurrently at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Art, Design & Architecture Museum, UC Santa Barbara, from January 25 through April 19, 2014.

Held in conjunction with MoMA’s exhibition Le Corbusier: An Atlas of Modern Landscapes, “Le Corbusier/New York” is a two-day international symposium that will examine this world-renowned French architect’s ideas on the city before and after his first trip to the United States, along with his influence on generations of American architects.

The symposium begins Saturday morning, June 8, with an exclusive preview of the MoMA exhibition led by its curator Jean-Louis Cohen.

Lectures at the Center for Architecture will follow. Speakers include architect Peter Eisenman, FAIA, Yale Professor Stanislaus von Moos, Columbia Professor Mary McLeod, MoMA’s Chief Curator of Architecture and Design Barry Bergdoll, and Jean-Louis Cohen, will discuss how Le Corbusier’s ideas about New York City influenced his work and how, in turn, Le Corbusier’s legacy impacted the city’s built environment.

The second day, Sunday, June 9, will be a tour of the United Nations Headquarters (seen above). Led by Assistant Secretary-General Michael Adlerstein, FAIA, and Public Information Officer Werner Schmidt – both from United Nations Capital Master Plan – participants will explore the building’s architectural history, including Le Corbusier’s contentious collaboration with the project’s main architect Oscar Niemeyer. The guides will also highlight the recent restoration of the Secretariat, which houses the UN’s working spaces, and the historic renovation of the three Chambers of the Conference Building.

Driver, a leading builder serving the Western U.S., has completed construction of the Civic Center and Park Project for the City of Newport Beach.

Located at 100 Civic Center Drive, next to the Newport Beach Central Library, the 117,000-SF project, which has been under construction since May 2010, adds 17,000 sq ft to the two-story library, a new 450-space parking structure, an 88,000-square-foot office building, and a community room and city council chambers totaling a combined 12,000 sq ft, and creates the city’s fifth-largest park at 14 acres, with its first-ever dog park. Construction costs totaled approximately $110 million. The new civic center, which officially opens in May, is currently slated for LEED Silver certification, with the possibility of LEED Gold. The new Civic Center creates a centralized location for all of Newport Beach’s residents.

Construction was broken down into three stages: The first phase, which began in May 2010, involved massive dirt removal and shoring work to prepare for the new parking structure and park; the second phase included constructing the parking structure, and began in early 2011; the final phase of the project began in early 2011, encompassing the library, park and city hall building construction.
