Bindella Osteria & Bar has opened its doors in the heart of Tel Aviv’s White City; reinventing the traditional Italian restaurant into a more upscale design-led eatery for city dwellers. This unique concept is spearheaded by Christian Bindella, fourth generation to the restaurant empire of the Bindella group in Switzerland.
“Both the design and culinary concept create something adventurous and new,” says Bindella. “Yet it was important to us to keep it accessible and unintimidating. We are redefining what a city’s local Italian should be – lighter dishes, contemporary design, and an upscale environment without the pretension.”
The relaxed contemporary design concept was inspired by the Bindella family vineyard in Tuscany. Local architects Pitsou Kedem Architects and Baranowitz-Amit Design Studio created a ceiling treatment that mimics the vineyard’s pergola and imitates the organised and spacious arrangement in between the vines.
The grape motif is seen in the metal screens and feature front door by by Rafael Maman, while a long communal crudo bar lined with Ethnicraft’s N4 Teak high chairs and lit by Marset’s terracotta Pleat Box pendants adds to the overall relaxed, modern mediterranean atmosphere.
“The restaurant’s façade withdraws slightly inwards, thus allowing the street to enter the restaurant in an organic fashion. The large metal door, constructed from hollow, iron rings, is framed with a high, iron gate - inviting guests to cross the threshold and escape the hectic city environment.” Sigal Baranowitz, Baranowitz-Amit Design Studio.
The menu, created by Israeli chef Roy Soffer, introduces innovative and light interpretations of classical Italian dishes using simple raw ingredients, such as the tuna tartar topped with limoncello caviar, and a starter of octopus carpaccio with fennel, mint, and fresh chili. In the evening, Bindella Osteria & Bar goes from laidback lunch spot to vibrant late-night eatery, offering an inventive cocktail menu and a wide selection of wine and grappa imported from the renowned Bindella family vineyard in Montepulciano, Tuscany.
