Heery International has been named construction management advisor for a new $320 million lysine production plant in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The plant is being built by CJ BIO America, Inc., a subsidiary of CJ Cheil Jedang Corp., one of South Korea’s leading food and consumer products manufacturers.

The new plant will produce lysine, an essential amino acid derived from corn that is widely added to animal feed. When completed in 2014, the plant will have the capacity to generate 100,000 tons of lysine annually for the United States, where total demand reached 350,000 tons in 2010. The plant is also expected to create 170 jobs.
Heery will be responsible for on-site construction management advisor services from pre-construction through completion for the 65-acre site. Heery is also providing off-site support in scheduling, estimating, and project coordination.
Parsons Brinckerhoff will provide on-site assistance with civil construction and the electrical/instrumentation installation as well as a project coordinator from its Seoul, Korea office to interface with CJ Cheil Jedang’s headquarters staff.
