Humanscale’s Design Smart Seminar series continues in November with two educational sessions: Directions for Change in the Design of the Workplace and Public Architecture and the Power of Pro Bono Design.
In “Directions for Change in the Design of the Workplace” on November 10, 2009, in New York City, Andrew Laing, Ph.D., will explore how changing work habits have necessitated a shift in the design of the modern workplace. Since work is no longer contained to the office building, the office must become a networked environment that can support mobile workers. Laing will discuss how organizations should now approach workplace design, how the design can add to the value of the business and the well-being of the user, as well as how a modern and innovative design strategy relates to overall business performance.
In “Public Architecture and the Power of Pro Bono Design” on November 17 in Washington, D.C., and November 18 in Chicago, decorated architect John Cary discusses the benefits of pro bono design for communities and individuals. Cary will outline the “how-to’s” of approaching pro bono projects as fee-based work, maintaining high expectations for design quality, and best practices for utilizing pro bono services as part of a successful business model.
Attendees of both sessions are eligible for AIA and IDCEC (IIDA, ASID, IDC, IDEC) credits.
