Sustainable Textile in New Colors: Sting by Camira

Developed with UK government support and working in conjunction with bast fiber research specialist De Montfort University in Leicester, UK company Camira has created an innovative green material made from the common stinging nettle. Now relaunching in an updated color palette, Sting exhibits "a natural rustic charm inspired by the countryside." The textile's 14 shades are soft and muted, recalling natural elements as varied as fragrant Lavender and calming Camomile.

A perfect example of "combining commercial enterprise with scientific research and development," Sting stands for Sustainable Technology in Nettle Growing. Camira produces Sting in a streamlined process: the company "grow the nettles as commercial agricultural crops, strip the bark of the stalk away to extract the flower, blend it with wool and then weave and dye the fabric." The end result is a strong, soft, and naturally flame-retardant fabric that is 100% natural.
