Rug-cycle: Green Trend

Rug-cycle: Green Trend

Since its founding in 2002, members of the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) have diverted 2.3 billion pounds of waste carpet from U.S. landfills. The word is spreading that manufacturers must do everything possible to use sustainable, recycled, and recyclable content in their products. Here are a few that convey the message of responsible manufacturing with style:

Duetto 4, Hanna Korvela, recyclable, green, carpet

Duetto 4 by Hanna Korvela: Hand-woven in Finland with 100 percent cotton and paper yarn, Duetto 4 is recyclable at the end of its lifetime. Available in seven reversible colors, the dust-repellant materials are ideal for reducing allergens. www.hannakorvela.fi

Next gen 4, parametric design, carpet, green

Next gen 4 by Carpet Concept: Using parametric models to design repeating patterns, the manufacturer is able to achieve more efficient manufacturing and installation systems. Next gen 4 is available in four designs in seven colors. www.carpet-concept.de

Nova, Chevalier edition, green, carpet, rug

Nova by Chevalier ©dition: Investing in an heirloom is always green; Chevalier ©dition’s 100 percent wool rugs are made to be passed from generation to generation. Traditional Nepalese rugmaking techniques are carried out in facilities registered with Rug Mark, a non-governmental organisation that prevents children from working in the rug industry. www.chevalier-edition.com

Join, Marcel Wanders, Anker

Join by Marcel Wanders for Anker: Commercial carpets in the Join collection are produced from 100 percent Econyl, a recycled yarn manufactured (through a joint recycling programme with Aquafil) from polyamide 6 yarns. Anker also feeds its unprocessed yarns into this cycle. www.anker-teppichboden.de

Springles Eco 700, recycled, Object Carpet

Springles Eco 700 by Object Carpet: The tufted contract quality is ideally suited for the use in hospitals and retirement homes because its solution-dyed yarn ensures durability after repeated disinfecting and colour fastness. Springles Eco is also made of Econyl, the first 100 percent recycled polyamide yarn by Aquafil. www.object-carpet.com
