Console Mirror by Front

It’s all about illusion. A doorway framing a round table – or a console table abutting a mirror? It’s definitely the latter of the two options, but looks like the former. Somewhat confusing or misleading? That’s the point. Front has designed the Console Mirror for Italian furniture company Porro. This new trompe l’oeil accessory is a play at deception: a doorway leading into the imaginary. Seeing as it’s common knowledge that mirrors feel more expansive, Console Mirror simply takes advantage to produce an intriguing illusory effect. Fun and functional, it serves as a place to primp for girls and guys alike.

Swedish design group Front is a team of three women known for the design of whimsical products such as the large-scale Horse Lamp, rabbit lamp and pig table for Moooi. Console Mirror is the most recent product of a more long-term relationship with Porro, having collaborated with the company to produce the Endless Shelf, followed by three new black and white furnishing elements: a cabinet, sideboard and wall-mounted container, that were debuted at the Milan Furniture Fair last year. Their ideas are remarkably simple – but the effects are incredibly cool.
