Providing a subtle sheen to furniture and lighting designs at this year’s Milan furniture fair, iridescent glass emerged as a major trend.

Inspired by the iridescent surface of bubbles, ECAL graduates Jos©phine Choquet and Virgile Th©voz presented a range of three mirrors that play with the colors of the prism, changing color according to your viewpoint.

Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola has created this iridescent coated glass table for Glas Italia. Called Shimmer, the four geometric panels of glass that make up the design create spectacular layers of prismatic color.

Dutch duo Scholten & Baijings applied an iridescent finish to their Iris carafe and tumbler for Czech silvered glass brand Verreum.

Also named Iris, this handblown crystal lamp with an iridescent coating won German designer Sebastian Scherer a Lexus Design Award.

Eindhoven-based Studio WM showcased Lucent – a integrated mirror, lamp and shelving design. Made from iridescent dichroic glass, the circular mirror slides across the shelf, becoming transparent when illuminated.

Recalling the design of a motorcycle helmet visor, the JBF 01 optical blue wall lamp by Jean-Baptiste Fastrez for Moustache adorned the wall at Spazio Rosanna Orlandi.

Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design student Kirstin Overbeck presented a series  of designs that explore intelligent optical materials and their iridescent effects. The collection, entitled ‘Perceptual Studies’, included this adjustable floor lamp and a series of rotatable wall mirrors.

The Cosmo wall system by Berlin-based Studio Joa Herrenknecht is made up of geometric peg boards and detachable accessories like hooks, magnets and this eye-catching iridescent mirror.
