Shell Chair by Carl Hansen & Son X Jim Thompson

Just in time for the holidays, the Shell Chair by Carl Hansen & Son is getting all dressed up in jewel-tone silks by Jim Thompson.

The limited-edition collection includes 16 textiles in four themes: Red Coral, Golden Citrine, Green Jade, and Blue Sapphire. Jim Thompson’s handwoven silks combine elegantly with the iconic shape of the Shell Chair, creating luscious objects that are as tempting as artisan chocolates wrapped in shiny foil.

Coating Shell Chair in luscious silks lends a mysterious air to the mid-century icon, which is fitting, given Jim Thompson’s life history. After traveling the world and establishing a global Thai silk brand, Thompson disappeared one day in 1967 while walking in Malaysia during holiday.

This reincarnation of the Shell Chair, with vibrant colors and decadent materials, offers something transcendent, almost ineffable. It’s like a dream version of itself.
