Jasper Morrison’s New Supernormal Collection For Vitra

Jasper Morrison’s New Supernormal Collection For Vitra

Jasper Morrison, together with his longtime collaborator, Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, coined the term ‘supernormal’ to describe how design should be-understated, useful, and responsible. Throughout Morrison’s career, he has steadfastly applied this philosophy, making him one of the most iconic designers of his generation. His new collection for Vitra is yet another shining example of his genius for creating furniture for Supernormal humans.

The collection includes the Soft Modular Sofa, the Occasional Lounge Chair, the Occasional Low Tables, a reworking of the 2004 Plate Tables, and most interestingly, the All Plastic Chair. With a shape reminiscent of the simple wooden chairs that have been European classics for many decades, the All Plastic Chair utilises a new material that is cast in a single piece that retains an organic shape and finely modeled backrest that provides superior comfort. Further detailing of axial shafts with rubber buffers that connect the backrest to the frame ensures that the chair gently flexes and responds to the movement of the user.
