Founded by Natalie Lee-Joe and Brett Redmam, Jidori is the first yakitori restaurant to open its doors in East London's trendy Dalston neighbourhood. Located in an old wedding shop, the space was redesigned by London-based Giles Reid Architects.

Specialising in traditional Japanese yakitori, popular skewered street food from Tokyo, the new eatery stays true to Japanese design, with a pared back interior complemented by a contemporary color scheme.

Formerly a bridal shop, Giles Reid Architects took on the task of transforming a retail space into a hospitality venue. Black cork seats dotted around the restaurant contrast against the natural wooden tabletops, which are set with custom made pastel crockery by Japanese ceramicist Yukakiku Moto.

Sycamore wood, a material commonly used to make furniture in Japan, was chosen used for the tables and bar to give the restaurant a feeling of warmth, which is accentuated by the globular glass pendant lights that hang from the zig-zagged ceiling.

Serving lunch and dinner, Jidori offers a light, airy atmosphere throughout the day, with a more intimate setting for evening sittings. Diners can also opt to sit at the bar, giving them an open view into the kitchen while the chefs prepare the Japanese delicacies, which are proffered on bar's upper shelf.
