City-inspired: Surface Trend

Designers look to the patterns, colors and shapes of the urban landscape for inspiration for these city-inspired surfaces.

Designed to fit contemporary and traditional interiors, Mews by Barber and Osgerby uses colors representative of the landscape, infrastructure, history and personality of London. The tiles come in different finishes and lend themselves to both indoor and outdoor use.

Danish carpet manufacturer Ege has teamed with up with British designer Tom Dixon to present a range of carpet inspired by London’s cityscape, incorporating repeated forms and details found in the streets of the British capital.

Khalid Shafar drew his inspiration from the UAE’s architectural landscape, using the silhouette of the Burj Khalifa to print onto textiles and wallpaper, using a combination of subdued sandy tones and vibrant pantone colors.

In collaboration with Transport for London, British designer Lindsey Lang studied the patterned upholstery on the London Underground to create a range of 3D tiles made using cement, a material used in tube stations across the city.


Kvadrat uses the skylines of a modern metropolis in the Skyline curtain, with the bold prints available in multicolored and monochrome colorways. The curtain reveals different crops of the cityscape, depending on whether the drape hangs folded or flat.
