Shaw Hospitality Group’s new Design Journey Cloth & Stone Collection explores ancient crafts from India, Cambodia and Laos.

The Shaw Hospitality Group and Shaw Contract Group design team spent three weeks exploring remote locations in India, Cambodia and Laos, seeking out ancient crafts still being made as they were centuries ago.

Stone carving, the inlay technique Pietra Dura, hand-woven textiles and the art of miniature paintings, which are created with crushed semiprecious stones, were a few of the crafts the team explored. The result is a collection of 25 tufted carpet patterns for hospitality public spaces and guest rooms.

"There is no substitute for the fully immersive experience of learning about each craft from a master artisan. The inspiration and vibrancy of our experiences flow through this new collection," said Maria Scott, Shaw Hospitality Group design manager. "The designs offer customers a modern interpretation of centuries old crafts. We pay homage to those artisans who keep the authenticity of the art alive today."

As with all Shaw Hospitality Group carpet collections, Design Journey: Cloth & Stone is manufactured with Eco Solution Q® nylon, which is Cradle to Cradle certified by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry. Eco Solution Q contains 45 percent recycled content, consisting of 20 percent pre-consumer and 25 percent post-consumer recycled content.

This carpet can be reclaimed at the end of its useful life and recycled into new carpet again through the Shaw Industries Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility in Augusta, GA. Since 2009, Shaw Hospitality Group has diverted more than 1 million pounds of post-consumer carpet from U.S. hotel renovations.
