Pretty in Pink: Color Trend

In line with Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014, Radiant Orchid, pink has been a prominent color at this year’s trade shows and product launches. In particular, we’ve noticed the shade being used to create slender side tables that play with geometry, lightness, transparency and layers.

Boston-based designer Debra Folz was inspired by the reflections of light and transparencies found in gemstones when designing the Gem coffee tables. Translating the facets into a 2D form using layers of color, the metal and glass coffee tables gracefully reflect their color onto the floor.

Designed by Seattle-based Iacoli & McAllister, these powder-coated steel wire side tables create different layered line patterns depending on the angle you view them from.

Resembling faceted gem stones, the acrylic Pentagonal Side Tables by Spectrum West Furniture feature mirrored tops.

Neon side tables by Sebastian Herkner for Haymann Editions_1

Shown at Wanted Design in New York last month, the Neon side tables by Sebastian Herkner for Haymann Editions sandwich together thin slices of onyx and neon acrylic. Available in four different sizes, the onyx marble is glued on the colored acrylic plate and than milled and sanded to a specific thickness.

MIna Side-tables-by-Frank-Rettenbacher-for-Zanotta

Launched in Milan earlier this year, Frank Rettenbacher‘s lightweight Mina and Emil tables for Zanotta feature slim lacquered steel tops supported by thin steel wire frames.
