Folded Seating: Hospitality Trend

Designers are taking inspiration from origami and fashion to create seating with crisp folds, a paper-light appearance, and a geometry that is at once interesting to the eye and ergonomic:

Souda, Mitre, folded, trend, hospitality

Mitre Stool by Souda: Less than a year old, young Brooklyn-based design studio Souda created the Mitre stool with four planes that form a geometric shape designed for ergonomic comfort.

Sandler Seating, folded, trend, hospitality

Structure by Sandler Seating: Sandler’s new side seat is made with a solid-colored integral foam that is embossed with a design that mimics folded paper. The chair is available in eleven colors with legs in matte or polished chrome.

Phoulds by Allermuir: The Phoulds family of seating is designed with twin shells, the outer of which is finished in beech veneer that can be colored, stained, or upholstered, and the inner of which is upholstered in fabric or leather interlocking pads. High back, medium back, and a light stacking versions are available.

Pleat, Nienkamper, folded, trend, hospitality

Pleat by Nienkamper: Designed by Four O Nine, the Pleat lounger has a cantilevered design supported by a structural fold along its spine. Inspired by techniques used in fashion design, specifically Giorgio Armani’s flat-front suit pants, the polyethylene chair is 100 percent recyclable and is available in white, black, gray, and red.

383/384 Motek by Cassina: The art of origami inspired designer Luca Nichettoto create the Motek chair. Available in a polished aluminum or matte black structure and several leg finishes, the shell can be upholstered in synthetic felt or in leather.
