Milan 2013: Kristalia’s New Rama Chair by Ramos Bassols Studio

Even before seeing Kristalia‘s new chair, designed by Brazilian firm Ramos Bassols Studio, its name gives a hint at its organic shape. Rama, Spanish for “branch,” is the first product in a new collection that will eventually feature other versions and finishes of the initial design.

Rama was launched this week at Milan’s 2013 Salone del Mobile

Building on the Italian furniture maker’s history of craftsmanship and technological innovation since its founding in 1994, the chair celebrates the woodworking techniques of the area surrounding its headquarters.

The designers’ focus for the Rama chair was its form, which is meant to evoke warmth while being useful in contract environments with a shape that allows the chair to be stacked when not in use. Its multi-plywood structure is supported with a thin frame of pressure die-cast aluminum and solid wood legs.

As with its other products, Kristalia performed in-house material testing for contract use, and received additional wood testing from Italy’s CATAS Research and Development Centre. Click here for distribution information.
