Light-Hearted: Lighting Trend

If traditional lighting puts you in a dark mood, here’s some bright news—from Tina Turner to Fallen Angels, lighting designers are finding new inspiration that puts the “fun” back into functional lighting:

Terzani, Nigel Coates, Angel Falls, lighting, trend

Angel Falls by Terzani: Designed by Nigel Coates, a chandelier with customizable groups of hand-made crystal forms appeal to the fallen angels in all of us. Angels are illuminated from above with a halogen or LED light source.

Tina, Arturo Alvarez

Tina by Arturo Alvarez: Inspired by Tina Turner’s voluptuous mane, the lamp creates unique movement and shadows in a room—and can be given a haircut for a custom appearance. Available in floor lamp and sconce models.

NewsLicht by Lichtlauf: Have your news and read it, too, with a paper and aluminum wall light. An LED behind the sconce creates warm white light; can be mounted on a junction box or connected by plug.

Skateboard sconce, sconceboard

Sconceboard by MFEO: Reclaimed skateboard decks are repurposed to create one-of-a-kind wall sconces. Fitted with custom industrial cage lighting, the lamp is controlled by a rotary cord switch, easily accessed behind the board.

Catellani & Smith, Parete, gold, LED

PK LED by Catellani & Smith: A fiberglass hemisphere that projects abstract shadows creates the effect of a large balloon splattered against the wall. Available in gold, silver, white, natural with an LED light source.

Wow - the Angel Falls pendant immediately brought images to mind of the people who jumped from the Twin Towers to avoid burning to death - definitely not “light-hearted” imagery for me.
