The Mayor sofa is a classic design from 1939 that shows a moderation of modernism.

Back in 1939 when Danish architects Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen were commissioned to design Søllerød City Hall, the project included the design of everything from furniture to door handles. For the seating, the duo came up with Mayor; an elegant sofa design with a high tapered back and two rows of subtle buttons that wrap around the arm rests. The upholstered seat rests upon a solid oak frame and is completed with three loose cushions. The original version was made in cognac leather but the new version is available in a variety of colors and materials.

Last month it was announced that &Tradition’s reissue of the classic design has won them the award for ‘Best Reissue’ at the Wallpaper Design Awards 2013.
