You may be surprised to learn that when Mogens Koch’s iconic Folding Chair design was first created in 1932 for a church interior furnishing competition, it received a tepid response. Viewed as too radical in its design, the chair was not put into production until 28 years later in 1960 when design connoisseurs began to show interest.
When designing the Folding Chair, Mogens Koch’s vision was to create a piece of furniture that was both easy to transport and aesthetically pleasing.
Today the design is a world-renowned classic and is now produced by Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son. A highly practical design, the Folding Chair automatically stabilizes itself when sat upon - a clear demonstration of Mogens Koch’s passion for functionality. Mounted brass rings allow for smooth folding and the wood frame and a fabric or cattle-hide seat and backrest provide elegance and comfort.
The Folding Chair is available in oil-treated beech or mahogany woods. The seat and backrest are available in canvas (natural) or leather in selected colors. The armrests are made of full-grain leather (natural). A beech or mahogany storage rack which can store up to six chairs is also available. Each Folding Chair measures 34.3” high, 19.7” wide and 19.7”deep with a seat height of 17.7”.
