New Materials From Waste: Green Trend

Industrial waste is gathered from factories, recycling plants and building sites and made into new raw surface materials. These responsibly produced surfaces are examples of recycling at it’s finest.

This year building materials manufacturer 3form launched a collection called 100 percent made entirely of post-consumer plastic. The surfaces are chemically resistant and suitable for interior and exterior use. www.3-form.com


Worktop Surfaces by Vetrazzo
Post-consumer glass bottles are taken from the recycling plant and then crushed and cast into slabs to make work surfaces. Vetrazzo is comparable to granite in terms of its strength, scratch resistance, heat resistance, durability, and ease of care and maintenance. www.vetrazzo.com

Exciton XL by Giovanni Barbieri
Exciton is a three dimensional decorative tile produced from recycled travertine or marble dust using a laboratory tested process. Produced by Italian stone designer Giovanni Barbieri, the tiles are available in two dimensions and in three colors. www.giovannibarbieri.com

EcoGlass by Bendheim
Bendheim’s EcoGlass is made using discarded glass that is culled from the waste stream in a German factory by computer-aided filtering systems.
