The Architec Dry Urinal by Duravit and Prof

Following on from our recent post about Green Bathrooms, the new Architec Dry Urinal by Duravit is another product that fits perfectly into this category. The design embraces responsible water use and environmental conservation by flushing without using a drop of water.

Thanks to a hose membrane integrated into its outlet, Architec Dry flushes without any water.

The clever gel membrane is fitted on the underside of the urinal’s cover. It opens only when urine flows through and then closes again to keep unpleasant odors at bay. The gel is based on purely organic substances, a mix of pH neutral and active cleaning ingredients, that are gradually flushed away during use.

Those worried about hygiene can be assured that the gel membrane is designed to fight stubborn dirt and urine, while its microorganisms break down organic substances and prevent the formation of unwanted odors. Additionally, the ring contains essential oils that release a fresh fragrance to create a pleasant interior environment. The green gel also acts as an indicator: when it has been used up, it is time for the module to be replaced.

Due to it’s waterless flush, the Architec Dry is operated without any water pipes and tap fittings thus serving as a cost-effective alternative to urinals with a conventional flush. In addition to its easy maintenance and cleanability, the membrane only requires replacement after 7,500 uses, and the urinal itself saves over 5,000 gallons of water.
