The Birdie lamp, designed by Milanese architects Ludovica & Roberto Palomba for Italian lighting brand Foscarini, was originally launched in 2011 as a standing lamp that was designed to be a new interpretation of the classic reading lamp. The design features a traditional shade but the stand and light switch have an organic curve that resembles the branch of a tree – hence the name Birdie.

This year, the popular design was re-interpreted as a striking suspension lamp.

The design features the same polycarbonate shade, and branch-like lacquered stainless steel stem and diffuser design. It’s available in a one, three, six and nine stemmed version and in white, grey, orange and red finishes. Birdie requires 70W E26 medium type T10 shielded frosted halogen bulbs or 25W E26 medium compact fluorescent bulbs.

The Birdie collection also includes floor, table and wall versions for a complete lighting scheme.
