Custom-Scraped Flooring from Indusparquet

Working in the trades in a mountain community—as I occasionally have in the past—one comes across some fairly esoteric specifications. The most outlandish of these was when I was in the employ of a custom furniture builder, mostly for the purpose of hand-sanding an expansively spiraling three-story handrail made of French Baked Oak. I’ve also worked on an elaborately “antiqued” floor in which the hapless planks were driven on by a Bobcat, hammered on with 10 penny nails, and shot through with a BB gun. Little did I know these brutal preparation were much in the tradition of fine wooden floors everywhere, as Indusparquet’s recent Custom-scraped flooring collection shows.

The manufacturer of elegant custom floors is pleased to announce the release of three new textured lines to accompany their already expansive collection of fine hardwoods and beautiful exotics. Offered in a wide range of conventional, strange, and infinitely interesting coloration, the new collection proposes three varieties of custom-scraped plank flooring: Hand-scraped, Sculpture-Scraped, and Demolition.

Given my experience with floors and weaponry, I’m intuitively drawn to the latter, yet all three have their individualistic charms. Hand-scraped styles are available in both Brazilian Chestnut and Brazilian Pecan. These custom floors show a subtly roughened finish that gives them an interestingly aged patina and ever-so-slightly uneven texture. The Demolition line applies to Brazilian Cherry and Brazilian Teak; it imparts a slightly rougher yet more consistent texture: “perfect for creating an organic and handcrafted ambiance to any room.” And lastly, Indusparquet’s Sculpture-scraped style in Brazilian Teak is like the big brother of the Hand-scraped style—deeper, more pronounced ridges and sanded tops provide a distinctive and intriguing finish with a shabbily chic appeal.
