How flexible is Andreu World’s Flexa Chair? A case could be made that Flexa has antecedents in two iconic pieces: the Stingray Rocker and the Eames’ line of molded plastic side chairs. Indeed, Flexa partakes of the very same and still very versatile fiberglass, albeit in a somewhat more refined thermo-fiber reinforced incarnation.

The material is largely responsible for Flexa’s flexibility, as it enables the synthesis of excellent durability and form-fitting function that makes Flexa such an asset around the office—or the home, for that matter. The chair’s unique curvature facilitates a “push-up” effect that supports users in an advantageous ergonomic position: “its proportioned structure helps to control the activity of sitting, as the horizontal reinforcements naturally conform to the shape of the spine.”

Beyond the obvious perks of good ergonomics and appealing aesthetics, Flexa is also a good choice for those of particular stylistic inclination. The chair is available in a number of options, including a stackable version without arms; four legs, sled base, central base with crossed legs, or wheels; and upholstery for the seat and back.

About the Manufacturer: Andreu World was founded by Francisco Andreu Martí in Spain back in 1955. Not one to be bounded by those Iberian shores, the company now runs manufacturing plants and commercial companies in Asia, Europe, Australia and the United States (including a showroom at Chicago’s very own Merchandise Mart). In spite of Andreu World’s international inclinations, the company’s products still possess a pronounced Mediterranean aesthetic. By routinely collaborating with designers like Patricia Urquiola, Javier Mariscal, and Jamie Bouzaglo, Andreu World consistently creates innovative seating, tables, and upholstery that expertly walk the fine line between contemporary function and high Spanish flair.
