Chester Moon Sofa. Designed by Paola Navone. Manufactured by Baxter.
Baxter’s Chester Moon Sofa is as Light as Air and Twice as Soft
Chester Moon takes the work of designers like Urquiola and nudges it even further in the same direction. Indeed, if Urquiola’s Bohemian Collection is daring and baroque, Chester Moon is positively rococo—in upping the ante on the decorative quotient, Chester Moon propels Capitonné to a whole new level.
Baxter achieves this effect of excess largely through bigger buttons and more of them too. The profusion of the tufted detail—in concert with the extra cushiony upholstery—creates a pillowy profile, giving Chester Moon an ethereal aesthetic befitting of the name.
In fact, the multiple nooks and crannies that the tufted buttons etch onto the sofa’s surface somehow remind me of the fanciful old intimation that the moon were made of cheese. And I can’t help but think there’s some connection between that odd correspondence and the name Chester Moon.
Whatever associations it conjures up for you, above all, the Chester Moon Tufted Sofa will ultimely manifest in profound relaxation. Over-sized arms and wide, sloping, rounded edges all around the perimeter accentuate the sense of ease. A contemporary piece that manages to be both aesthetically daring as well as commodious, Chester Moon encourages all comers to doze off into a deep and enduring slumber.
About the Manufacturer: Manufacturer Baxter extols the finer things. Indeed, the images on the company website (a spoon overflowing with a thick, luscious sauce of dark chocolate and a little scone with a perfect dollop of clotted cream) emphasize the sensuous qualities of the company’s furnishings. What defines the line? “A surprising confluence of tradition, experience, passion, innovation, and experimentation.” The lovely Chester Moon Sofa is only the latest among Baxter’s impressive collection of sofas, chairs, and tables.
