Marble Joinery: WL07 Tretable by Joe Doucet

Marble is being used lately in unexpected ways. Not long ago, 3rings wrote about large marble door pulls, the work of architect/designers makeWorkshop. For the contract market, designer Joe Doucet has created an unusual piece known as WL07 Tretable. This marble table is made of only five flat pieces that get put together artfully, producing a table with a dynamic shape.

Unexpected Material for Unusual Contract Table

WL07 Tretable actually employs "the joinery techniques of 17th-century cabinetmakers to create a solid build and minimize wastage." A triangle at the top and one at the base balance each other out, while three legs also employ the shape, albeit in an elongated form. The idea behind this design by Joe Doucet is to use an old-world technique with an unexpected material, thus "creating a contemporary heirloom."

WL07 Tretable makes for an interesting occasional table for hotels, offices, lounges, and waiting rooms. The triangle works wonders as an antidote to traditional round and rectangular contract tables. And the shape works in tighter spaces or odd-shaped rooms. The luxurious material complements elegant d©cor, but it also suits a modern style.
