Peacock Chair from Dror Benshetrit for Cappellini

Inspiration comes from many sources. Animals are one of them, appearing in films, paintings, photographs, and even showing up in our furniture. More abstract than literal, the Peacock Chair from Studio Dror for Cappellini draws on the vibrant plumage from the fowl of which it was inspired by. Only male peacocks have the extravagant colored tail, which is used for courtship.

Minimal materials makes for a surprising statement piece.

Dror created a structural yet relaxing chair for Italian furniture company Cappellini, using very little materials in bright colors for a devastatingly elegant effect. It is available in blue or green with a gray back, or a combination of both green and blue, which are perfectly fitting colors for the design.

Three sheets of felt are tightly bound together like pages in a book, fanning out to mimic peacock feathers in a three dimensional way. Lusciously crumpled fabric is gathered together into pleats as the only construction method; there is no sewing, weaving, or upholstery. The base is a minimal metal frame that is powder varnished in a dark brown color.

The Peacock Chair is reminiscent of dish chairs that are common in college dorms. That being said, this design is decidedly grown up, and makes for a comfortable lounge chair that graduates your environment into something mature.

This sexy chair spreads its wings and shows that you’ve got great style and unwavering taste.
