Scale, Shape, and Function: Serafina Modular by Arcadia

Designed by David Dahl for contract furniture company Arcadia, the Serafina Modular Collection includes seating and connecting tables. The upholstered lounge chairs and sofas offer “the pinnacle of comfort” while the wedge-shaped and round tables provide perfect surfaces for writing, reading, and relaxing. Arrange Serafina in straight lines, semi circles, or S-shaped configurations—the modern modular series is “highly flexible, uniquely interchangeable, thoughtfully configured, with a nod to idealism and an easy-going attitude.”

While Serafina is “an open spaces dream” for many different contract venues, the seating system lends itself particularly well to the education market. For lounge spaces at colleges and universities—gathering areas in student unions, study rooms in libraries, or common rooms in dormitories—Serafina makes a comfortable and inviting spot where students can sit, write, relax, study, and collaborate. The small round tables are perfect ledges for resting cups of coffee, and the wedge tables are optimal surfaces for placing books and notepads.

The angled lounge chairs and connecting bridges have a “bold appeal” that nonetheless creates “a classic lounge look.” And fabric choices help transform the feel of Serafina from serious to studious, playful to polished. Some upholstery choices are practical; other fabrics are sassy. A dark gray evokes modern formality, while a bright tangerine invokes spirited fun.
